Tucked away in drawers and boxes in many households across the UK is a treasure-trove of unused phones. Three UK is relaunching its Reconnected Programme to encourage customers to donate their old phones. The focus of the initiative is to provide devices and data to those displaced due to the war in Ukraine.
In partnership with Genuine Solutions, experts in the recovery and distribution of mobile technology, Three UK is offering packages with Unlimited data, texts and calls for six months. As well as supporting Ukrainian refugees, individuals seeking employment, disadvantaged students and other vulnerable people facing digital exclusion will also benefit from the programme. Mobiles are a powerful force for good and with two in four Brits (53%) saying they keep their old or unused devices, there are millions of smart phones that can be dusted off and used to support disadvantaged people.
Three is working with three key charity partners – Good Things Foundation, Business in the Community and LetsLocalise – to alleviate social pressures on people. Reusing old smart phones can provide connectivity to almost 2 million households in the UK that don’t have internet access.
Elaine Carey, Three’s Chief Commercial Officer said, “So many of us take our phones and our connectivity for granted. We must remember that there are more than a million households in the UK that do not have this luxury. Our Reconnected programme is all about ensuring disadvantaged people can get connected quickly and easily.”
